A FEW THINGS ABOUT THE ARTIST

1. What do you do when you’re not making art? (Day job etc...).

I work in Masonry/Construction. I help build different kinds of buildings. I enjoy spending time with my daughter, watching movies, and learning new things.

2. Why do you make art?

I make art because it's the best way for me to express myself. I feel good during the process of painting, and afterwards seeing the end result.

3. What inspires you?

My inspiration to make art comes from my inner drive to express myself. I feel an inner need to get what I feel out.

4. What/who are your influences?

Life itself, and the many people in it is what influences me.

5. If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?

If I could meet anyone dead or alive, I'd like to meet Basquiat.

How has your art practice differed from what you originally envisioned when you started?

I had no clear vision when initially starting to make art. I still approach it the same way as before, which is, “going with the flow”. Every so often I decide that it's time to make a painting, and it always takes a 5-6 hour session. During this time, I'm only concerned with my art. I let my art do as it pleases. I paint when I feel that I need to express myself, in a way that I cannot do in other ways.

When did you know you were an artist?

Even though I've always felt that I was talented, I'd have to say that when someone wanted one of my art pieces. When someone likes what you made, it kinda validates your ability to make something beautiful, art!

What do you think the job of an artist is?

I think the job of an artist is to express themselves through art. Art is subjective, so others will always see it differently. I think the beauty of art is its ability to invoke ideas and opinions in people. As long as an artist expresses their inner creativity, they're doing what they should.

What are you most proud of in terms of your art?
